Responsible for compounding complex intravenous and chemotherapy infusion medications under the supervision of a pharmacist and according to accepted sterile compounding procedures.
Compounds and otherwise prepares complex intravenous admixtures, chemotherapy, total parenteral nutrition, oral bulk/unit-dose or prepackaged medications, compounds, investigational drugs, supplies and/or equipment for the Infusion Centers.
Works in collaboration with outpatient clinics and patient discharges to manage prior authorization and determine benefit coverage for nutrition therapies.
Verifies prescription information; determines accuracy of the prescription based upon information provided, obtains the correct pre- made medications and ensures that medications are delivered to the patient in a timely manner.
Orders pharmacy supplies and establishes inventory processes and records maintenance for drug delivery and dispensing.
Collaborates with nursing staff on patient treatment schedules.
Follows all safety and biohazard procedures in the disposal of chemotherapy and medical waste
Must have the following:
High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience
3+ years of directly related compounding experience (chemotherapy compounding experience preferred)
One year of drug ordering and inventory experience
Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)
IV Certification through an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited program
